Bethesda Game Studios revealed today what’s next for Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield following the latest round of layoffs that hit the Xbox division. In a long note posted on X, Bethesda confirmed that Fallout 5 has entered pre-production and that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in the pipeline. Moreover, the studio officialized that Obsidian Entertainment has started working on a new Fallout Game.
“Fallout is one of our biggest priorities today. Fallout 5 remains our long-range destination, and we have multiple Fallout projects in active development right now,” Bethesda said today. While Fallout 5 is likely many years away, the multiplayer-focused Fallout 76 will continue to receive new content and will get a “major” new expansion called Raven Rock next year. This will be a prequel to Fallout 3, which is being remastered in addition to the New Vegas episode developed by Obsidian Entertainment.

While the critically-acclaimed Fallout TV show has been renewed for a third season, Bethesda also announced today that the mobile game Fallout Shelter, which has more than 250 million players, will also get a TV adaptation. “An unscripted Fallout Shelter television project is also in the works with our partners at Amazon Studios and Kilter Films,” Bethesda said today.
Right now, Bethesda is hard at work on The Elder Scrolls VI, which was announced back at E3 2018. “Our teams are now developing The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform we’ve been building since Starfield’s launch. It allows our teams to support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games,” Bethesda said today.
The studio announced today that Fallout 4 has recently surpassed 35 million copies sold, while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has surpassed 65 million copies sold. However, Bethesda didn’t share sales numbers for Starfield, which was recently released on the PlayStation 5. The only new hard data we got about Starfield today is that the game had “over 17 million players logging almost a billion hours to date,” but these numbers also include players who tried the game via their Game Pass subscription.
“Starfield remains an important part of our future. As we enter Year 3, we’ll continue expanding the Settled Systems with new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates, while preparing for the launch of new Starborn content next year,” Bethesda said today.
