Nintendo Switch 2 players will be able to play a native version of Minecraft on October 27, 2026. The new port will be optimized for the more powerful hardware of the Switch 2, and there will also be an upgrade path for owners of Minecraft on the original Switch console.
“The Nintendo Switch 2 renders the world of Minecraft to lush life with Vibrant Visuals – set as the default visual experience. This means enhanced lighting, shadow effects and more – and you can even enjoy Vibrant Visuals enabled content across all the supported content in Minecraft Marketplace,” the Minecraft team explained.
The Switch 2 version of Minecraft will still have an exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up pack with a custom Mario-themed world, music, and unique skins, and all of this content is also getting graphical upgrades on the Switch 2. However, the Minecraft team noted that the Vibrant Visuals graphics update will be disabled when playing in split-screen on the Switch 2.
More details will be shared later about the digital upgrade path for owners of Minecraft on Nintendo Switch, which will remain playable on the Switch 2. Worlds created in the Switch version of the game will also carry over to the Switch 2 port.
Lastly, Minecraft Dungeons II, a new dungeon crawler set in the Minecraft universe, is also coming to the Switch, Switch 2, and other platforms on September 29, 2026. The game will also come to Game Pass on day one on Xbox consoles and PC.
