Google Improves Quick Share on Pixel Devices With New Tap-to-Share Mode

The Quick Share feature that lets Android users quickly send photos, videos, and more to nearby devices is getting a new Tap to share capability on Pixel devices. The new feature is rolling out to Pixel 6 and newer models, and Google said that it’s also coming soon to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8.

The tap-to-share functionality works by bringing two supported Pixel devices close to each other to initiate a two-way exchange. The two phones need to be unlocked with their screens also facing up, and a glow animation will show up when the two devices are ready to share contact information.

Sharing other content, including photos, videos, files, website links, and more, via Tap to share can be done via the Android share menu or the Quick Share page. Users will just need to select the content they want to share and then keep the two phones together until they start glowing.

Google mentioned on a support page that Tap to Share is on by default except for devices that have managed accounts. The feature can also be disabled in Quick Share settings.
