Meta launched a native macOS app for its Meta AI chatbot along with new AI features for small businesses yesterday. The new Mac app, which is currently in beta, supports system-wide dictation and can analyze app windows to get more context about what users are currently doing.
While Meta AI may not get as much attention as ChatGPT, Claude, or Google Gemini, Meta has been trying hard to “reboot” its chatbot as a productivity-focused assistant that also integrates deeply with the company’s social platforms. “Across meta.ai, the Meta AI mobile app, and the new Meta AI desktop app, you can now choose to have Meta AI work directly with your Instagram and Facebook accounts, Meta ad campaigns, and Google Workspace,” Meta emphasized yesterday.
A lot goes into running a business. Meta AI can now help with more of it.

Obviously, it will be difficult for Meta AI to compete with other AI desktop apps like ChatGPT, which now integrates Codex, a new Work mode, plus a Computer Use mode that can take control of desktop apps. Anthropic’s Claude app also has a similar Computer Use feature on macOS and Windows.
If the Meta AI app also gets the ability to take control of your computer at some point, it remains to be seen if users will trust the company enough to grant it access to their machines. Meta already uses data from Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp for AI training and ad targeting, and that’s probably why Meta doesn’t generate as much enthusiasm as other AI chatbots.
The new Meta AI app for Mac is available to download from this page. The company confirmed on X that a Windows version is also in the works, but there’s no ETA for it yet.
