Atari Partners With Activision on 2600 Cartridge Reissues

Atari is partnering with Activision to bring all 39 of the latter’s Atari 2600 game cartridges back to the market. But the The Atari x Activision Collection is going to cost you: Individual cartridges are $34.99 and the complete set is $999.96.

“In 1979, a group of Atari programmers set out to prove that great games could come from independent creators and ended up changing the industry forever,” Atari vice president Matt Burnett says. “The Atari x Activision Collection brings that legacy to life through the games themselves, giving fans an opportunity to experience, collect and preserve the work of the developers who helped establish a new model for the video game industry.”

The first 10 of these games come to market in November with individual Standard Edition game cartridges and the Treasure Collection, a boxed set of the 10 games in Deluxe editions in unique colors with an exclusive collector slipcase, 10 woven patches, and 10 enamel pins for $249.99. Games in this bundle include Barnstorming, Chopper Command, Dolphin, Dragster, Freeway, Grand Prix, MegaMania, Pitfall!, River Raid, and Sky Jinks.

Three more collections will follow in 2027, including the Speed Collection, the Secrets Collection, and the Victory Collection. Each is $249.99, and an Ultimate Deluxe Set that includes all 39 titles across all four collections is $999.96, as noted. There is also a Starter Bundle that includes a 2600+ console, two CX40+ joysticks, a set of CX30+ paddle controllers, and four games in Standard Edition–Kaboom!, MegaMania, Pitfall!, and River Raid–for $334.93 and various other bundles.

Each game cartridge works in the original Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 consoles plus all the Atari 2600+ and 7800+ consoles that Atari now sells. You can learn more on the Atari website.
