Anthropic announced a major update to its Claude AI assistant that integrates Claude Cowork into the main chat interface and adds Claude Docs and Claude Slides alongside the Claude Design experience that debuted this past April.
“Starting today, Claude Cowork and chat are merging into one Claude,” the Anthropic announcement explains. “Bring a quick question, or hand over a report due at noon, and Claude takes it from there, even after you’ve closed your laptop. It’s rolling out on Pro and Max plans over the next few weeks, with more plans to follow.”
Anthropic built Claude Cowork as a standalone experience for productivity work, just as it later built Claude Design as a standalone experience for visual design work. But this made their use somewhat confusing, as they were separate from chat, and some work done in one experience didn’t carry over into the other. So with this change, Claude will just figure out which tool to use on the backend and let you access each directly from chat. This lets you use the same context, skills, and connectors with each feature.
As for Docs and Sheets, these experiences are likewise available directly in chat, allowing you to ask Claude to create documents, presentations, and slide decks and then download them as PDF, PowerPoint, and other document formats. Each is available now in beta in all Claude paid plans, and Enterprise admins can control whether they’re available to users.
