Amazon Launches New Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft Models

Amazon just revealed a new Kindle lineup today with thinner and colorful models that work with new accessories, including a new Bluetooth remote. The new 6-inch Kindle is launching today in select markets, while redesigned Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft models will become available for preorder on a rolling basis.

“The team redesigned the new family of devices from the ground up, beginning with a newly designed reverse stack display construction—a first for the e-reader category. Every device now features a flush-front display—no raised border interrupting the reading surface. Just a seamless edge-to-edge display for an uninterrupted page and thinner, more portable device,” explained Kevin Keith, Vice President, Devices.

The new 6-inch Kindle with 16GB of storage starts at $149.99, and it’s available in Ube and Graphite colors. Amazon is also selling a 32GB version with an aluminum back for $189.99, and it’s available in two different colors, Alpine Sky Aluminum and Seaglass Green Aluminum. Both models feature the same thinner flush-front display, and Amazon promises up to 6 weeks of battery life and 30% faster book opening than the previous model.

At $199.99, the new 16 GB Kindle Paperwhite offers a thinner and lighter waterproof design with a larger 7-inch display with adjustable warm light. It also offers longer battery life (up to 12 weeks), and the $249.99 Signature Edition includes 32GB of storage, an aluminum back, an auto-adjusting front light, pogo pin dock charging, and a double-tap gesture to turn pages.

The new Kindle Colorsoft, which starts at $289.99 for the Graphite model with 16GB of storage, uses a new display technology to offer “paper-like color.” Amazon mentioned the inclusion of a light guide with nitride LEDs that “contains micro-deflectors that minimize stray light and improve uniformity. The company also mentioned that an “ultra-thin optical coating in the display stack improves clarity.”

A Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition with an aluminum housing, 32GB of storage, an auto-adjusting front light, pogo pin dock charging, and a double tap to turn pages is also available for $319.99. Amazon is also selling Kids versions of its new Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft with kid-friendly covers and 12 months of Amazon Kids+, a subscription service that offers thousands of ad-free books, games, and videos.

Lastly, Amazon unveiled new Kindle accessories today, including the $34.99 Kindle Click Bluetooth remote for turning pages in all Kindle models from 2024 or later. There’s also a $59.99 Charging Dock and $79.99 magnetic Page-Turn cover for the new Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft.
