Spotify’s audiobooks library, currently available in 22 markets, will soon be available globally. By the end of the year, the company will make its collection of over 350,000 audiobooks available in over 180 markets, with new titles in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, and other languages coming soon.
“More than 750 million people around the world will soon be able to stream or purchase books on Spotify,” the company said today. Audiobooks are available via Spotify Premium with monthly usage limits. In the US, Spotify also offers the Audiobooks Access plan, which includes 15 hours of audiobooks and ad-supported music for $9.99/month. In other markets, all Spotify users can also purchase audiobooks a la carte via the Spotify web player.
In eligible markets, Spotify Premium members can only enjoy 12 hours of audiobook listening every month, and this Premium perk is coming soon to Italy, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Norway, Peru, and other markets. To get more listening time, Spotify Premium members can pay for the Audiobooks+ add-on ($11.99/month in the US) that adds an extra 15 monthly listening hours.
This Audiobooks+ add-on will become available on Student plans in Ireland, Belgium, Austria, and Finland in November. “Since launching just over a year ago, we have more than one million Audiobooks+ subscribers, exceeding $100 million in annual recurring revenue. We plan to extend availability to Student plans in additional markets in the coming year,” the company said today.
Lastly, Spotify announced today that the Page Match feature that makes it easy to transition between the audio and physical version of a book, is getting a top-requested addition: By scanning the book’s ISBN barcode, Spotify users will now be able to pick up where they left off using page numbers.
