Asus is launching today the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a premium version of the existing Xbox Ally handheld with a custom design and some notable hardware upgrades. The gaming handheld is available to purchase for $1,299, which is $300 more expensive than the existing ROG Xbox Ally X from 2025.

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 uses the same AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip as the ROG Xbox Ally X, combined with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB SSD, and an 80Wh battery. However, it has a slightly bigger 7.4-inch OLED screen that can reach 1400 nits of brightness in HDR. There are also magnetic TMR sensors in the joysticks, a transforming D-pad that can switch from four-way to eight-way movement, and other upgrades such as rubberized grips and impulse triggers.

The design of the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is also different, with a translucent black body with subtle gold touches. Under the hood, the cooling system has been redesigned to improve heat dissipation. “The fans themselves have also been redesigned, with fewer blades but a larger diameter, which improves overall airflow by 20%, with an 11% increase heatsink fin surface area,” the company explained today.

On the software front, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 comes with an updated version of Asus’ Armoury Crate suite. Customers can expect better UI scaling, two HDR modes (‘Native’ and a ‘Vivid’ option that boosts color and intensity), two new Aura Sync lighting modes (Reactive and Immersion), and easier-to-use game profiles.

While the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is already quite expensive at $1,299, a premium collector’s bundle is also available for $2,499. This bundle includes the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, a custom dbrand Killswitch case, and a Pelican Protector Case.
