iA Writer and iA Presenter Are Updated for iPhone Duo

Information Architects (iA) has updated iA Writer and iA Presenter for the unique iPhone Duo screen orientations.

“Apple reimagined iOS to work on two screen sizes,” the iA announcement notes. “We reworked our apps for the inner screen, the outer screen, and for every state in between. iA Writer and iA Presenter are ready for iPhone Duo.”

iA Writer is one of my favorite Markdown editors, though it continues to work better on the Mac (and iPad, interestingly) than on Windows. And iA Presenter, though less well-known, is the company’s Markdown-based presentation app; this one is available only on the Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

iA says that when it created iA Writer in 2009, it thought of the app as “Writing Machine” in a direct translation of the German word for typewriter. Then, as now, the app was distraction-free, with no buttons, pop-ups, or title bar. With the iPhone Duo, iA says it now has a baby typewriter, and while it continues to be fast and powerful, this update, iA says, is the first time the app looks cute, too.

As for iA Presenter, this app now supports each screen and orientation provided by the iPhone Duo for both editing and presenting. “You can now comfortably write your slides on a much bigger screen,” it says. “In Landscape, the tools move to the side of the screen, putting them within easy reach of your thumb.”

iA Writer support for the iPhone Duo is available now in the latest app update, and iA says that iA Presenter is just waiting on Apple to complete its review process.
