One year after it consolidated its three creative apps into a single super app, Affinity says the iPad version is ready too. And like the Windows and Mac versions of Affinity, the iPad version is free.
“Affinity for iPad is so close you can almost touch it,” an email message from Affinity explains. “Affinity for iPad is coming soon. Pre-order on the App Store to get it once it lands.”
That “pre-order” bit initially made me nervous that Affinity might try to charge for the iPad version of the app: Previous Affinity apps–Photos, Designer, and Publisher–were available on Windows, Mac, and iPad, too, as paid apps. But checking the App Store listing on my iPad, I can see that it’s free. Pre-ordering just ensures that the new Affinity app for iPad will download and install on your device when it becomes available on November 3, next week.
And, yes, it appears that the Affinity app for iPad duplicates the three-in-one capabilities of the desktop versions, with Vector, Pixel, and Layout modes, plus access to parent company Canva’s (paid) AI tools. It supports Apple Pencil and touch, of course, and doesn’t appear to be stripped down in any way.
“Affinity for iPad isn’t just a cut-down companion, it’s a fully-fledged, creative experience built for touch,” the App Store listing explains. “Create production-ready artwork with real curves, precise nodes, and type that stays sharp through to print. Work with thousands of fully editable layers, follow every tangent, and change your mind whenever you like. Every adjustment, filter, and effect updates live, and heavy files stay fast and smooth, while Pencil pressure, tilt, and gestures respond exactly as your hand expects.”
You can learn more about Affinity for iPad–and “pre-order” the free app–on the Apple App Store.
