WhatsApp Revamps its Events Feature You Probably Didn’t Know About

WhatsApp is upgrading its Events feature, which most users probably didn’t know about. The app will now let you share event invites with people who don’t have a WhatsApp account, and it’s also adding a new Events home in Settings.

I didn’t notice it before, but WhatsApp makes it possible to create events in both one-and-one chats and group conversations. “We heard from people that they want a one-stop shop to create and coordinate events, including inviting friends who aren’t on WhatsApp,” the WhatsApp team said today.

That’s the purpose of the new Events Home, which will let users create events, add a cover photo, send customized invites even to people who don’t have a WhatsApp account, and manage RSVPs. This new Events hub, available in Settings, will also show all past and upcoming events.

“We built Event invites with privacy in mind: your phone number is not shown to guests you don’t know, and guests without a WhatsApp account will only see the event address after they RSVP,” the WhatsApp team also emphasized today. This new Events experience will start rolling out to all WhatsApp users over the coming weeks.
