“This will be the first time we release builds for PC and mobile on the same day,” Microsoft’s Gabe Aul explains. “For PC, Build 14271 brings a lot of improvements and bug fixes that are based on feedback we have received from Windows Insiders … [The Mobile build] is the same build we released on Friday but with two very important fixes and one new feature: Visual Voicemail for dual-SIM devices such as dual-SIM Lumia 950 XL.”
Here’s what’s new.
Feedback frequency locking. Starting with this build the frequency with which Windows will ask for your feedback will be locked to “Automatically (Recommended)” in the Settings app and will be automatically managed by the Windows Insider Program. If you don’t like this, you can roll back to the Windows 10 1511. and disable Insider Preview builds, Microsoft says.
Lots of bug fixes. Microsoft has fixed a number of issues in this build:
Known issues. A few known issues include freezes and blue screens when returning from hibernation, bugs that prevent Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Internet Security, or the Kaspersky Total Security Suite from working properly, and a few other more minor issues.
This is the same as build from last week but with a few changes:
Visual Voicemail for dual-SIM devices such as dual-SIM Lumia 950 XL. This now works on even unlocked phones.
Lumia 550 charging over USB now works again. Microsoft fixed an issue where the Lumia 550 would no longer charge or connects via USB. If you do own a 550, check out this post for more info on getting up and running.
ALCATEL ONETOUCH Fierce XL is now supported. As you may know, Redstone-era builds only work with select hardware. Before this build, that was the Lumia 950, 950 XL, 650, 550, and Xiaomi Mi4 only. Today, the ALCATEL ONETOUCH Fierce XL is added too.
History returns to the People app. I wrote about this already in today’s Thurrott Daily.
There are also some known issues, of course: Connecting to wireless displays is broken for some, and the the trackpad experience is not working correctly when using Continuum on the Lumia 950 XL. (I had this issue with the 950 on the previous build, actually.)
