Surface 3 owners have a firmware update waiting for them in Windows Update. But as has been the case in recent months with most such updates, there’s no word yet from Microsoft about what’s been fixed.

This disconnect between the firmware updates and their official descriptions is getting a bit tired, in my opinion. And we’ve been down this road before, with Windows 10: Microsoft should not be shipping major updates like this without giving its customers the information they require about those updates. There’s just no excuse for any delay on this information.
Anyway, I’ll keep checking back at the Surface 3 update history web siteand see when/if Microsoft ever deigns to explain what’s happening here. For now, the site is listing a June 22 update as the most recent.
If you do have a Surface 3, you’ll find an update called System Firmware Update – 8/8/2016. Or, at least you will if you’re running Windows 10, which I am. (It’s possible that those still using Windows 8.1 will not see this update.) I also finally received the Window 10 Anniversary Update, finally, on Surface 3, as you can see here. (My Surface 3 is still on 1511 as I write this.)
I’ll update this post when Microsoft finally gets around to explaining itself.
