Now Skype Has an "Insiders" Program Too

Today, Microsoft announced the Skype Insiders Program, allowing fans to gain early access to new features, provide feedback, and help with product development.

“As a Skype Insider you can become part of the Skype journey,” Microsoftexplains. “We are working hard to improve the way you communicate with those who mean most. Whether it’s a group video call, 1-1 audio call or just sending the latest Moji, we are focusing on improving the ease of use and reliability of Skype, but we need your help.”

Skype Insiders will:

  • Get early access to Skype software and services updates and improvements.
  • Be able to provide early feedback on these improvements and help Microsoft find any bugs and other issues before the improvements are released broadly.
  • Be able to submit suggestions for future Skype enhancements.

If you’re interested in the Skype Insiders Program, you can sign-up here. Note that this program appears to be private: Microsoft notes that “we don’t want to spill the beans to anyone outside of this program and so please keep it a secret!” Which seems to miss the point.

And speaking of missing the point, Skype continues to be amazingly inconsistent: Microsoft has the Windows Insider Program, the Office Insider Program, and of course the just-announced Xbox Insider Program. But Skype? Their program is called the Skype Insiders Program. With an “s” on the end of Insider. Because this is the level of attention to detail that causes the problems in Skype today, presumably.
