In honor of .NET’s 15th birthday this week, today’s codenames are the ones used for CLR/.NET Framework 1.0. Some called this NGWS (Next Generation Windows Services). Some say this was Lighting. Some called it Project 42. Why 42? Dev Div was in Building 42. The number 42 is, in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, the “Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.”
