Google is adding some interesting new features to Android TV. The company is planning to roll out some new features for the Android TV platform that introduces features aimed at saving users’ data.

The new features will be launching first in India. And that’s mainly because the features were built to solve a critical problem for users in India: not everyone as Wi-Fi at home, and so they use their mobile hotspot to connect their TV to the internet, which means it’s easy to eat through their mobile data plan while watching TV.

To help with that, Android TV will soon come with a Data Saver mode built-in. The built-in data saver mode will reduce data usage on mobile connections, increasing watch time by up to 3x, according to Google. The company is also working on a new Data Alerts feature that will monitor and automatically warn users about their data usage while watching TV.

Google says it’s also making it easier for users to set up their TV with their mobile hotspot.

And lastly, the company is making it easier for users to watch offline media on their TV from their phone. It’s adding an Apple AirPlay-like feature to the Files app in Android that will allow users to cast offline media to their TV without using the internet. So you will be able to use the new Cast feature on your Android phone to display photos, videos, etc. from your phone on your TV. The feature is first launching as a beta for the Files app.

The company says it’s going to be rolling these features out to users in India with TVs from Xiaomi, TCL and MarQ by Flipkart. The company plans to roll these features out globally in the near future.
