Microsoft usually announces dates for its annual developer conference Build in December. This year, however, the company hasn’t announced any details for Build 2018 as of yet.

Today, a new leak from Microsoft enthusiast WalkingCat shows off what seems to be the invite for Build 2018. The conference will start on the 7th of May and finish on the 9th in Seattle. Keep in mind that Microsoft is yet to officially announce the dates for Build 2018, and although WalkingCat’s leaks are almost never inaccurate, you are probably better off waiting for the official announcement before making any bookings.

The timing of Build 2018 is interesting mainly because of the fact that Google’s annual developer conference I/O is going to happen around the same time as well. Google’s conference starts on the 8th of May and finishes on the 10th, so it’s going to be a really busy (and exciting) week for tech blogs and journalists.

At the moment, we obviously don’t know what exactly Microsoft is going to talk about at Build this year. But going by the recent trends, the company will likely have a huge focus on AI and Mixed Reality. We’ll also get to know more about the next update for Windows 10, codenamed Redstone 5, at the event. Once we get closer to the date we’ll start having more details on the conference, so stay tuned.

So we'll have RS4 out before Build and I imagine there will be a month's worth of new Insider releases ahead of Build. That's about the right time for the grab bag of new features to get added and released to Insiders in one go. It's certainly never a dull moment :)

In reply to IanYates82:

We will have early builds of RS5 out before Build but they will save all of the "announcements" of what is coming to Windows for Build.

I would guess that this year the messaging will be that a feature will be coming "soon" to Windows vs nailing down specific times so they do not get burned again. While they might talk about a couple of sure things, most will be coming over the next two updates.

I can't imagine what the advantage is supposed to be of keeping the dates secret while sending out invites.

Well, I actually got two Build email invites. For the last several years I've been going to both Build and Ignite. I find I'm just not as interested in the Build developer story anymore. I have found that a lot of the same stuff (perhaps with a different slant) is available at Ignite. As Ignite this year is in Orlando (as it was last year), and as I live in Florida, I think I'm going to forego the joys of a cross country flight (even if first class) for the pleasure of driving my cherry yellow Mustang (with black racing stripes :grin) to Ignite in Orlando where I'm very familiar with the lay of the land, the hotels, and the roller skating rinks (always an important consideration). I'll also be spending a month in England this summer — so two trips in 2018 should be plenty.

See ya all in September?.

A new conference to try to convince all developers to migrate all their applications to the UWP ugly garbage platform, Edge and Bing, and to show the new PWA capabilities in Windows 10.

Probably just the same as Build 2011, where they told us to give up on .NET and adopt JavaScript as their own platforms wee failing. Oh and trivial stuff about AI Bots and some stupid AR stuff.
