Samsung cited strong sales of its flagship Galaxy S25 smartphones for powering record revenues in the most recent quarter. The firm reported an operating profit of $4.7 billion on revenues of $55.6 billion for the quarter.
“Samsung Electronics today reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2025,” the Samsung announcement notes. “Revenue was an all-time quarterly high on the back of strong sales of flagship Galaxy S25 smartphones and high-value-added products.”
On a less positive note, Samsung’s Devices Solutions business, which makes memory and other semiconductor products, experienced a decline in quarterly revenue due to “headwinds” that include a decline in average selling prices (ASP), a decline in high bandwidth memory (HBM) because of export controls on AI chips, and “deferred demand” due to a coming new generation of HBM. But the business posted an operating profit of $772 million on revenues of $17.6 billion, Samsung said.
Samsung’s display business–Samsung Display Corporation (SDC)–delivered an operating profit of $351 million on revenues of $4.1 trillion, with the company maintaining “a conservation outlook” for the coming quarter despite an expected growth in gaming displays thanks to new products.
Samsung’s Visual Display and Digital Appliances business reported an operating profit of $211 million on revenues of $10.2 billion. This part of the company makes smart TV and other large display panels, and it plans to expand its 2025 AI TV lineup soon.
The Mobile Experience (MX) and Networks business is responsible for the company’s smartphone and other mobile products, and it was predictably responsible for over half of Samsung’s revenues in the quarter and most of its profits. The business reported an operating profit of $3 billion on revenues of $26 billion, and Samsung said it would “sustain flagship-centric sales amid weak seasonality by successfully launching the Galaxy S25 Edge” in the current quarter. It also plans to launch new foldable devices in the first half of the year and bring “Awesome Intelligence,” its moniker for AI capabilities, to Galaxy A series phones.
