Razer’s First Ever Android Phone Now Available at the Microsoft Store

Razer recently launched its first ever smartphone focused towards gamers. The company also partnered with Microsoft to sell the Razer Phone exclusively at Microsoft Stores in the United States and Canada. The device went on sale at the Microsoft Store yesterday, and you can now get one for yourself by going to your local store or grabbing one from the online Microsoft Store. As part of the partnership, Microsoft is selling a special edition of the Razer Phone which comes with a green Razer logo on the back as well, but Razer only made 1337 units of those.

In terms of specs, the Razer Phone is quite powerful. The device comes with the world’s first 5.76-inch QuadHD screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz which will let you enjoy games without any lag. Under the hood, there’s the Snapdragon 835, 8GB LPDDR4 RAM, 64GB storage, and a 4000 mAh battery. Like many flagships of this year, the Razer Phone comes with a dual camera setup on the back where you’ll find the two 12MP cameras, one of which is a telephoto lens, and the company has also packed an 8MP camera for selfies on the front. The Razer Phone definitely isn’t made for taking pictures, so don’t have any high expectations from the camera.

Interestingly, the 4000 mAh battery on the Razer Phone is apparently capable of offering up to 7 hours of gaming, 12.5 hours of video playback and a whopping 63.5 hours of music playback. These are just Razer’s claims and your mileage may vary. The good thing about the device is that it comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ which can help the device charge up to 85% in just an hour.

Buying the Razer Phone from the Microsoft Store won’t get you a solid Microsoft experience on the device, though. The device comes with Nova Launcher out of the box, and Microsoft says its own Android launcher is compatible with the device, as spotted by MSPoweruser. The device does still come with a pure Android experience so there isn’t a lot of bloatware, but do keep in mind that it doesn’t come with the latest version of Android.

Anyway, if you are interested in getting the Razer Phone, you can get one here from the Microsoft Store for $699.

I really like the idea behind this phone. It seems like they focused more on making it usable over pretty. It has a pre-Lenovo ThinkPad vibe to it.

Also, Sony should setup a meeting with Razer to learn what their secret was to include a functional finger print reader into the power button for the America market…

All these "quick charge" options seem to be just a marketing gimmick. Just get a high-amperage (2A) USB charger, like some of the non-certified Anker or other models, and it'll charge just as fast, if not faster.

Razer is a brand that speaks to my PC gaming son. His phone is currently a hand me down, and is saving up for a Razer mechincal keyboard…but he seems to want to spend money on things with the Razer name on them. Microsoft seemed to ignore PC gaming for so long. It seemed to imply that gaming belonged on the xbox, while the greatest Windows and Microsoft fans were PC gamers. Great to see Microsoft coming around and embracing PC gaming and PC gamers.

From what I've seen the camera is quite acceptable. I don't think that will be a dealbreaker for too many potential buyers.

An interesting idea from Razer that I can't see going well at all. We'll see I guess. The 120Hz screen is awesome. But having seen one myself, the brightness is absolutely terrible. Don't even try to go outside in sunlight and use this phone.

I was ready to buy one, but they don't have protection plan for the phone. Not spending ~$800 without accidental coverage. Ohh well, OnePlus 5T it is…
