Google Set to Launch Pixel 3a, 3a XL

Google’s new mid-range smartphones will allegedly not be called Pixel 3 Lite and Lite XL as previously reported. Instead, Google will burden these new devices with nonsensical names: Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL.
That’s according to a new report from 9to5Google, which confirms a previous week-old report from the same publication. It cites a single source who is “familiar with the situation.”

Oh, it’s a situation all right.
“The forthcoming mid-range Google Pixels are indeed called the ‘Google Pixel 3a’ and the ‘Google Pixel 3a XL’,” the report notes. “We can also independently confirm some previously-rumored specifications and offer some more details about the devices.”
Those are that the Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL will have 5.6- and 6-inch displays, respectively, and form factors that closely resemble those of their more expensive stablemates. They will come in both Clearly White and Just Black, along with a third color that is still a mystery. (I’ll assume Not Pink.)
Each will support 18-watt fast charging, Active Edge squeezable sides, eSIM capabilities, and Google’s Titan security chipset. And each will ship with at least 64 GB of storage.
9to5Google was not able to corroborate some specifications, including the processor—allegedly some combination of a Snapdragon 670 and/or 710—or the battery sizes, which is rumored to be at least 3000 mAh. No word yet on timing—“this spring,” according to one rumor—or pricing, which, along with reliability, has been the Pixel lineup’s Achilles Heel since its inception.
