OnePlus Might Finally Embrace Wireless Charging

OnePlus phones are pretty great for the most part, except the fact that its devices do not support wireless charging. OnePlus fans have long been complaining about the lack of wireless charging, with the company simply refusing to embrace wireless charging for the past few years.

As it turns out, though, that might change soon — for the better, of course.

OnePlus’ next phone, the OnePlus 8, might actually have wireless charging support. There have been a couple of rumours about the potential wireless charging support on the OnePlus 8, but there hasn’t been any concrete information to actually support that claim.

That’s kind of changed now, though: OnePlus has recently joined the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) which means it might finally start supporting wireless charging on its future phones. The phone maker is now listed as a full member of the WPC, as first spotted by MobileScout (via 9to5Google).

OnePlus joining WPC is a strong indicator that the company might finally be bringing wireless charging support with the OnePlus 8, but it is still not 100% confirmed, of course. We can’t really be sure until OnePlus officially announces wireless charging on the OnePlus 8. And considering OnePlus’ marketing tactics, you will definitely know when the company does eventually announce wireless charging support on the OnePlus 8.

For me, wireless charging is not at all important. I don't get the big deal. It takes me maybe 1 second to plug in once or twice a day at most.

In reply to Minke:

As someone who only very recently finally gave up their aging Galaxy S7, the wireless charging feature can be a savior when your charging port is simply "worn out" from being plugged in repeatedly for years. It also never really worked all that great after getting a small amount of salt water near the port (I tried cleaning it repeatedly). And when your battery is old and not great, you have to charge it multiple times a day.

Wireless charging allowed me to keep the phone close to a year longer than I would have tolerated, if I had to rely only on the USB port.

I understand the convenience of wireless charging. But for more it is not something I care as a feature on my phone. I don't own any wireless charging devices. Maybe the tech has improved but my last experience is I'd either set the phone down just a little off or jostle it a little bit and it would stop charging. Since then I've never bothered going back.

I have the OnePlus 7T and I have to say that the turbo charge is pretty sweet and more than meets my needs. I used to plug in over night and now I do not, I just juice it while having breakfast and coffee and I am good to go for the day!

I love all the downvotes on comments about people who say they don't use wireless charging: they're probably from people who use it regularly. Heaven forbid people have differing opinions on its usefulness. I don't use it, and I'd rather have a better camera in One Plus than wireless charging.

I'd be curious to see numbers on what percentage of users regularly use wireless charging.

I’m on my fourth oneplus handset now. The 7t I’m using these days has really great battery life and with dash charge it’s such a quick charge time. If they must introduce wireless charging then put in on the pro models only and price/feature accordingly.

for me I’d choose dash charge over wireless anytime.

When I had my Lumia 920, I swore I'd never get a phone without wireless charging. Then I got a OnePlus, and I don't miss it at all. They charge so fast, I just plug it in while I'm getting ready for work in the morning, and it's ready to go for the whole day.

Why would I want to put it on a slow wireless charger and not be able to use the phone for an extended period of time?

I won't complain if it's included with my next phone, but I also don't think I'll use it.
