Philips Hue has announced a sweeping set of updates across its smart lighting product line, with a major expansion into new smart home products. Key among them is a new Hue Bridge Pro smart hub that’s compatible with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings, that turns Hue-compatible lights into motion sensors so you can combine up to 150 smart lights and security products into a more complete solution.

Philips Hue’s iconic E27 smart lights have been redesigned to offer dimming down to 0.2 percent of maximum brightness, and they now use 40 percent less power than before. But the biggest update, perhaps, is that they now support Matter Over Thread in addition to Bluetooth and Zigbee, so they can be integrated into any Matter-compatible smart home setup without requiring a Hue Bridge hub.
Philips Hue also announced its first-ever smart doorbell, the Hue Secure, which offers motion detection with notifications to the Hue app, integration with smart lights, and contact sensors. There are versions with a camera and without, and there’s a standalone Smart Chime for sound alerts. Philips Hue is also updating its Secure cameras with 2K video.
The best news, perhaps, is that Hue is finally addressing the low-cost smart lights that have been flooding the market with a new Essentials line of E27- and GU10-compatible light bulbs with lower prices. A single colored Essentials bulb is $24.99, compared to $59.99 for the standard version, for example.
Philips Hue also has new families of light strips, string lights, light bars, and other lighting solutions. And it has formally announced the rumored partnership with Sonos, enabling customers with both environments to control Hue lights using Sonos Voice Control.
