Google is now rolling out a long list of enhancements to Gemini for Google Home that address user feedback.
“We’ve been heads down working on improvements based on your feedback,” Google chief product officer of Gemini for Home Anish Kattukaran tweeted. “Looking forward to sharing a number of fixes and updates today across Gemini for Home, the home app, automations and a number of our devices.”
In subsequent tweets, Kattukaran noted that feedback from the October early access launch of the new Gemini-powered Google Home drove this week’s updates. Which include:
Room-level commands. Google improved how Gemini targets smart home devices with better isolation, meaning that it will no longer target all devices when you give general commands. “Turn off the lights” should just turn off the lights in the current room and “turn off the kitchen” should only turn off the lights in the kitchen, not all smart devices.
Improved context. Gemini now uses the name you gave a device plus the manufacturer data to know what type of device it is so that it can respond intelligently to commands. So a device named “Table Glow” will correctly respond to “turn on the lights” even though the word “light” isn’t in its name.
More accurate location. Now, Gemini for Home only uses your home address as configured in the Google Home app, and not other Google services or the location of a Google Home household member who may be traveling, so that weather, news, and location-specific queries are handled correctly.
Reliability fixes. Early access users complained that they could get cut off while speaking, so Google fixed that and made reliability updates throughout. Tasks like notes, reminders, calendars, timers, and alarms should now be more consistent and dependable, Kattukaran says. Voice-triggering custom routines is more reliable now. And music playback and answering questions about music is more reliable, as is correctly playing newly released music.
Google Home Premium improvements. Those who subscribe to Google Home Premium Advanced are getting a new Live Search feature for cameras. So instead of just asking about something that happened, you can ask Gemini to understand the current state of your home. For example, “Hey Google, is there a car in the driveway?”
Nest WiFi Pro improvements. Google has started rolling out the March 2026 update for Nest Wifi Pro with enhanced mesh performance, stability, and security.
Nest x Yale Lock integration. Nest x Yale Lock integration in the Home app is out of Public Preview and is now generally available.
Automation improvements. Google has added more starters and conditions to the Google Home automation editor, including such things as “When the security system is armed,” “if the device is plugged in,” and “if the Pixel Tablet is not docked by 9pm.”
