Samsung announced today that it has partnered with Perplexity AI to make the AI-powered answer engine available on its 2025 smart TVs. The new Perplexity TV app will coexist with Samsung’s Bixby assistant and Microsoft Copilot, which also launched on the 2025 lineup of Samsung Smart TVs and monitors back in August.
Along with Anthropic, Perplexity is one of the biggest US-based AI startups competing with ChatGPT maker OpenAI. On Samsung smart TVs, the Perplexity app will help users find things to watch, get answers to general questions, plan trips, and help with everyday tasks.
“The Perplexity TV App offers a sleek and visually appealing experience, going beyond text-only responses. When you ask Perplexity a question, results appear with high-quality, glanceable cards made just for Samsung TVs,” Samsung explained in a press release.
Accessing Perplexity AI on Samsung smart TVs can be done by launching the app from the Tizen Apps bar or by pressing the AI button on the TV remote. The Perplexity TV app will also become available on Samsung’s 2023 and 2024 smart TVs later this year via an OS upgrade.
“Samsung is the number one television brand in the world, and we are excited to bring the functionality that Perplexity users know and trust to Samsung’s television screens and device owners around the world,” said Ryan Foutty, VP of Business at Perplexity today. Perplexity AI isn’t the only company interested in bringing AI chatbots to TVs, however. Google’s Gemini AI is also coming to Google TV, while Amazon’s next-gen Alexa+ assistant will be supported on many Fire TV devices already on the market.
