Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered Goes Standalone

As expected, Activision is making Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered available as a standalone game on June 27. Previously, it was only available as a pack-in with certain versions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

There are no real surprises here, other than the price, which is way too high: You will pay $40 to play this nearly decade-old game. It’s not clear yet if that price includes all of the multiplayer maps; with the original release, you had to pay extra to obtain them.

UPDATE: That map pack is not included, so you’ll need to pay another $15 to get those maps. –Paul

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will arrive first on PlayStation 4, via both disc and digital download. No surprise there: As you may recall, Sony lured the COD franchise away from Xbox two releases ago, and we’ve been suffering ever since. But it’s not clear when this game will appear in standalone form on Xbox and PC; probably in late July based on the past few COD releases.

In the good news department, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is still an incredible game: The single-player and multiplayer experiences are still both incredible. That said, if you were a real fan, you would have bought this already.

Man I wish they would re-master the Mass Effect trilogy, I would pay £50 for that.

The 3 (and probably the only) memorable parts of it were: the airport terrorist scene, Pripyat, and the nuke going off.

This was a fantastic game on my 360.

As far as this version…I will let the ponies pay that crazy price and I will pick it up sometime after I get my X.B.O.X with the map packs for $29 or less in some holiday sale.

I am waiting for mw2 and mw3 to be remastered… COD4 remastered really is a great game and they have done a tremendous job of remastering it.

don't we have better games than this to play now? Only people that want to play a COD game will pick this up. Games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds are all the rage now.

In reply to rameshthanikodi:

I have Battlegrounds on my PC and my PC is high end (1080GTX, i7-6700K, 32gigs, 1TB SSD) and that game is a so un-optimized. At 1080p I get between 45-85 FPS with max settings. Compare that to say BF1 where I get 130ish FPS and BF1 looks 10x better.

Battlegrounds if fun for the first day or so. However with one map and horrible sluggishness it gets old fast. I am hoping that coming to the console allows them to tune it big time since the hardware will be focused.

This won't sell as well on PC as the original still works on modern hardware & is still on sale.

That said I'd expect the original version to be quietly removed from storefronts soon.

I like the concept of the game, but really need cooperative online mission/story play. For single player story play I've got enough backlog of games to keep me busy for a while.
