First Week of Xbox One X Sales Beat PlayStation 4 Pro in the UK

Xbox One X has been making headlines ever since its first introduction back at E3 2016. The console was available for pre-orders recently, and Microsoft even said that the demand for its most powerful console ever was overwhelming. Now that the Xbox One X has officially launched last week, some actual sales data for the console are starting to come out.

According to GamesIndustry, Microsoft sold 80,000 units of Xbox One X in the United Kingdom during the first week of sales. That’s more than the PlayStation 4 Pro, which is arguably Microsoft’s biggest rival and sold only 50,000 units in the first week. Microsoft wasn’t able to beat sales numbers of the Nintendo Switch, which sold around the same number of units as the Xbox One X in the first week of sales.

Aaron Greenberg, the head of games marketing at Xbox, says the Xbox One X brought in similar numbers across Europe as well:

The high demand for the Xbox One X was obviously fulled by the early hype around the console. Even though Microsoft has done an impressive job with the Xbox One X hardware, lots of gamers are still waiting on the company to deliver increased numbers of exclusive 4K games for the console. Microsoft says the company is working those, but that will take a while to arrive.
