Sony Brings PS4 Remote Play to iOS

Sony is bringing a massive new feature for PlayStation 4 users to iOS. The company is shipping support for Remote Play with the latest 6.50 firmware update for PlayStation 4 systems.

With Remote Play, users are able to play games and control their PlayStation 4 from their iOS device. The feature first launched on Android devices years ago, and it’s finally making its way to iOS. It’s essentially a lot like Xbox’s game streaming feature, though that’s only limited to Windows 10 for now.

Remote Play doesn’t allow users to use a controller, however — so you will have to use the on-screen controls, and frankly, they look quite clumsy. You won’t be able to connect the DualShock controller of the PlayStation, so you may need to use a third-party controller if you want a decent experience with Remote Play. Sony also states that not all games might be compatible with Remote Play, and you will need to be on a WiFi network for the feature to work. And that means you won’t be able to play on your PlayStation while you are on the move.

Remote Play could be part of a bigger plan for Sony, especially since game streaming services are set to be the new big thing. With Microsoft expected to bring Xbox games to other devices like the Nintendo Switch through its own game streaming service, it won’t be too surprising to see Sony take the same route, too.
