Microsoft Delays Testing of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC

Microsoft quietly revealed today that it will not make the promised April start for public testing of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC.

“Twenty-eight days ago, I tweeted that ‘if all goes according to plan, this is the month public flighting will begin’,” 343 Industry Community Manager Brian Jarrard writes in a forum post on the Halo Waypoint website. We did have aspirations and plans to hopefully kickoff flighting in April … now with only a day to go, I can definitively say there won’t be any public flights this month.”

According to Jarrad, MCC is a “really complicated project,” and 343 is simply ensuring that the quality of the games meets the bar that Halo fans expect. (Which makes me wonder about Halo 5, but whatever.) But “real progress” has been made, he says, and the firm will support public testing as soon as possible. No word on the new schedule, however: Given the April gaff, 343 is understandably wary of promising anything too specific.

“Overall,  [MCC for PC] is progressing well and Reach [the first Halo game that will be ported and tested] is already pretty fun to play on a PC,” Jarrad notes. “We look forward to showing you first hand once we’re closer to a final public flight start date.”

As you may recall, Microsoft announced that Halo: The Master Chief Collection would be coming to the PC back in March and that it would port the games in the collection one-at-a-time, starting with Halo: Reach and moving forward in chronological order.
