Microsoft is launching a new Xbox app for Windows 10 devices. The company has been removing a bunch of social features from the current Xbox app as it’s introducing a new Xbox app that will be the hub for things like Xbox Game Pass and the store.
At E3 today, Microsoft mentioned the new Xbox app for a split second. The new Xbox app will be the home for PC games, as well as Xbox games that are available on the PC. Microsoft seems to be positioning the new Xbox app as a competitor to things like Steam, and design-wise, it looks really beautiful.

The new app will give users access to Game Pass, as well as the game store. And yes, that means you will get access to Xbox Game Pass for PCs from this new app. You will also be able to access social features, giving you access to your friends and chats. The app also lets you download and install games, though that’s currently done via the Microsoft Store in Windows 10.
What is even more interesting is the fact that the app is based on Electron, so it is a Win32 app. And that means Microsoft has moved away from UWP for the new Xbox app which is very interesting. Microsoft’s new Xbox app could even introduce support for mods in the near-future.
The new Xbox app is launching as a beta today, and you should be able to get it here.
