Games with Gold: November 2016

It’s a new month, and the start of another chance to snag four free Xbox games! This month’s Games with Gold promotion features a nice mix of games, plus a blast from the past.

Reminder: All Xbox 360 games in the Games for Gold promotion also work with Xbox One in Backwards Compatibility mode too. So Games with Gold is particularly nice for Xbox One owners.

Here’s what we’re getting free this month.

Special note: This one is a brand-new [email protected] game, and is debuting on Xbox Live for free. Which is pretty cool.

Monkey Island: SE
Normal pricing: $9.99
Availability: November 1 to 15

Description: Pirates! Adventure! Monkeys! Relive the hilarious swashbuckling misadventures of the wannabe pirate Guybrush Threepwood as he attempts to become the most infamous pirate in the Caribbean! The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition faithfully re-imagines the internationally-acclaimed classic pirate adventure game from LucasArts in gorgeous HD detail. Featuring an all new re-imagined contemporary art style, hand-drawn and presented in 1080p, complete voice over by members of the original Monkey Island franchise cast, a re-mastered musical score using live instruments, plus scene-for-scene hot-swap to seamlessly transition between Special Edition and Classic modes at any time.

Special note: As a child of the 1980’s and an Amiga user/fan, I have very fond memories of the first two Monkey Island games, which took the play mechanics from the Sierra adventure games of the day and added a nice dash of personality and humor. I’m curious to see how (or if) the remastered version of this game holds up 25 years later.

Super Dungeon Bros. sounds funny, and it has 4-player co-op. I'll give it a try. I've already played the remastered Monkey Island (excellent) and Soul Suspect (don't bother, even for free). Monkey Island lets you click back and forth between the remastered and original graphics, which is a real trip down memory lane. The writing and humor hold up beautifully.
