Reminder: Microsoft’s Countdown Sale Starts Today

Microsoft Announces Its Biggest-Ever Xbox Sale

Phew, it’s been a few days since I’ve had to write about another Microsoft holiday sale. But heads-up: Countdown starts now.

As you may recall, Microsoft bills Countdown as its “biggest-ever Xbox sale.” But it’s not just about Xbox: the software giant is also offering sales on content like TV shows (and series) and movies too.

Unlike previous holiday sales, Countdown extends past the holidays, to January 9, and it changes over time so that different items become available at sale prices over time.

On that note, I don’t see a big promo page for the sale, but this page on the Microsoft Store website provides a pretty boring grid of the sale items today.

Here are some of the game and app deals that stand out to me:

Xbox Play Anywhere Games for Xbox One and Windows 10

Forza Horizon 3 Standard Edition – $38.99, normally $59.99

Gears of War 4 – $32.99, normally $59.99 – For $30-ish, this is a lot of content, and worth looking into.

ReCore – $19.99, normally $39.99

Games for PC/Mobile

Forza Horizon 3 Standard Edition – $38.99, normally $59.99 (Works on too.)

Halo: Spartan Assault – 99 cents, normally $2.99

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition – $9.99, normally $19.99

Oxenfree – $4.99, normally $19.99 – Excellent game, and a no-brainer at this price.

Apps for Windows 10

Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 – $69.99, normally $99.99 – Excellent deal, great application.

You should definitely try out Affinity Photo, Paul. It’s a far better deal, at $40-$50 (sale until 12/27) and a full Photoshop competitor.

Affinity Photo also gets my vote. I wish it was available through the windows store but it’s a fantastic deal.

Thanks, but I’ve been using Photoshop Elements for years, love how it works, and know it well. Plus I just bought the latest version.

I am hoping for a drastic price reduction of the Xbox One original console. I saw a refurbished edition go for $159.99 (Halo edition) on Groupon once, but if a brand new one can be had for $179, then I’ll act on it.

As for Adobe Photoshop Elements 15, that IS NOT a good deal. From what I understand is that the Expert Mode is relatively the same as the previous versions of this product. So all those who are using (at least) versions 12, 13,& 14 really don’t need to upgrade. The only big difference in this version is the ability to group layers, which is functionality of the Photoshop CC version. As for the price of $69.99,….this can be had as little as $49.99. I have even seen go as low as $39.99. Not just that, but both Photoshop Elements AND PREMIERE ELEMENTS can be had for $69.99-$79.99 from stores such as Amazon and B&H Photo. All you have to do is just wait and constantly check the "deal" sites like slickdeals or techbargains to see when that 2in1 deal is offered.

A bastardized, feature stripped, "app" version of Photoshop? And it only works on one version of Windows, and only through the "Store" which MS could just abandon like so many other failed efforts? No thanks.

No, it’s full Photoshop Elements.

Dude. It’s Photoshop Elements. The same damn thing that has been around for literally as long as I’ve lived. They just put in on the store, that’s all. When you buy and install from there and use it you get the same thing.

The brainstem won’t help..just keep you allive.

A minimal-brainer perhaps.

I’m fairly new to XB. Bought it a Halloween time. They had great sales on horror games then to get me started. The Black Friday sales were great. These are all just weak – as far as digital XB download games go. Some are more expensive than they were during last month’s sale.

And – cuz I can’t find this out anywhere – is there any reason that COD Black Ops 3 – which says it was released in 2015 is as much as Infinite Warfare for the past month?
