So, I thought I'd give a brief update to my original question. I started noticing push notifications for the Microsoft Authenticator app weren't coming up after an app update, back in August. Since then, I've bought a new phone. The old phone was an Alcatel Idol 4, running Android 6.0, and my new phone is the ZTE Blade Z Max running Android 7.1.1.

After I got the new phone, I of course, reinstalled the authenticator app, and push notifications started working again. This led me to believe that if I had reinstalled the app on my old phone, notifications might has started working again, but reinstalling the authenticator app is not my idea of a fun evening. However, when you get a new phone, that's just part of the package.

Anyway, I've had this kind of thing happen at least twice. After a certain update, some app will start/stop behaving a certain way. Then, after reinstalling said app, the behavior will go back to normal.

So, New Year's resolution (new motto, what have you), "When in doubt, reinstall." Thanks Microsoft.

IIRC, push notifications work only if your phone is secured by a PIN, fingerprint, etc. or some such secure lock method.

So, do you have such a secure lock, or is it always unlocked (like mine), or just a swipe to unlock?
