Microsoft: the Next Version of Edge Is Ready for Daily Use, Launches Beta Builds

Microsoft is announcing a big milestone for the next version of Microsoft Edge: it’s ready for everyday use.

The company is releasing the first beta builds of the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge today on all supported versions of Windows and macOS. The new beta channel means you will now get more stable builds of the new browser, updated every 6 weeks.

Those on the Dev and Canary channels will continue to be able to run those builds along with the new Beta channel builds. For those on the Canary builds, Microsoft is releasing a new Collections feature today — more on that here.

Microsoft is announcing a couple of other big milestones today: the company says it has had more than 1 million downloads on the preview builds of Edge to date, and it’s received more than 140,000 individual pieces of feedback from users so far.

The company even highlighted that it’s made more than 1,000 commits to the Chromium project to date, and plans on continuing to make further contributions to the Chromium project. It’s even extending the Microsoft Edge’s security bounty program to cover the Beta and Dev channels now, which means security researchers now have the opportunity to find and disclose “high-impact” vulnerabilities on the dev and beta builds of Edge that can earn them rewards of up to $15,000.

Microsoft Edge’s new beta builds are available right now, and you can download them from the Microsoft Edge Insider website here.

In reply to NazmusLabs:

I'm facing the exact same issue as the OP. I could install extensions properly 3 months ago and now, when I decided to give Edge another shot, I can't.

So is the beta version in addition to the dev version? Not a replacement?

In reply to m_p_w_84:

Correct. Beta version is updated every six weeks, which is what the final version will be on schedule wise.

DEV version updated weekly sometimes more than once if there is a big bug. Canary version is updated daily.
