Microsoft Enables Support for More Languages on Edge DevTools

Since the launch of the new Microsoft Edge browser, Microsoft has received a lot of positive feedback. The company has continued to make updates to the browser over the last few weeks, and it’s now introducing a major update for developers.

The DevTools on Microsoft Edge, so far, only supported English. That is changing today, with support for 10 new languages on the Edge DevTools. Microsoft claims research has shown that developer experiences are more productive when they fit their own language and location preferences, so this update might be super helpful for developers who aren’t proficient at English.

For those wondering, Microsoft is adding support for Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.

The new feature is enabled by default in Edge Canary, and it will be enabled by default on Edge Dev, Edge Beta, and Edge Stable soon. In the meantime, you can enable the “Enable localized Developer Tools” feature on edge://flags.

Microsoft says the company is working closely with DevTools, Lighthouse, and Chrome teams at Google to improve localization features on Edge. The company is contributing all its localizability features to Chromium as well. In the future, Microsoft plans to enable support for right-to-left languages, and also localize the documentation for Edge DevTools.
