Microsoft has started rolling out the April 2022 updates for the Surface Duo 2 and the original Surface Duo (via Neowin). These updates bring security fixes for the two dual-screen devices, but there are also some Miracast improvements for the original Surface Duo.
In the release notes for the Surface Duo patch, Microsoft mentioned that this update fixes an issue causing external displays to appear pixelated when screen sharing via Miracast. For those unfamiliar, Miracast is a wireless technology that leverages Wi-Fi to connect mobile devices to wireless displays, but it didn’t become as popular as proprietary solutions such as Apple Airplay or Google Cast.

If both the Surface Duo 2 and the original Surface Duo received Android 11, both devices are still not running the latest version of Android. Android 12L, a special version of Android 12 with unique features or tablets and foldables is expected to arrive on the Surface Duo 2 later this year, but Microsoft has yet to share more details about that.
In case you missed it yesterday, both the US Microsoft Store and Best Buy are currently offering $500 discounts on the 128GB and 256GB versions of the Surface Duo 2. This new $999 price point should make the dual-screen much more attractive, though it’s possible that its price could go down even further in the coming months. This happened pretty quickly for the original Surface Duo, which was much harder to recommended than its successor, though you never know.
