Microsoft’s New Xbox First-Party Games Will Cost $70 in 2023

Microsoft is following other game publishers and will raise the price of first-party Xbox games in 2023. Next year, all new Xbox exclusive games from Microsoft will be priced at $70 instead of $60, though regional pricing may differ.

“We’ve held on price increases until after the holidays so families can enjoy the gift of gaming. Starting in 2023 our new, built for next-gen, full-priced games, including Forza Motorsport, Redfall, and Starfield, will launch at $69.99 USD on all platforms,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Windows Central. “This price reflects the content, scale, and technical complexity of these titles. As with all games developed by our teams at Xbox, they will also be available with Game Pass the same day they launch.”

This news will affect first-party games coming in 2023 including Starfield, Redfall, and Forza Motorsport. As Microsoft emphasized, all these games will also all be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on their launch day, which is more than ever a great incentive to subscribe to Game Pass.

Most third-party AAA games have also seen price increases since the launch of this new console generation. A game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is already priced at $69.99 on Xbox Series X|S consoles, and it’s the same for EA’s FIFA 23 or 2K’s NBA 2K23.

After Microsoft offered a $50 discount on its Xbox Series S for Black Friday, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft also raises the price of its consoles in 2023. “I do think that at some point, we’ll have to raise some prices on certain things,” Phil Spencer said back in October.
