The upcoming Apple Watch Series 10 that Apple is expected to reveal later this fall could be the biggest update for the smartwatch in years following the launch of the Ultra model two years ago. In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman explained that we should expect to see bigger screens on the Apple Watch Series 10 that may blur the lines with the upcoming Ultra 3.
Gurman previously reported last year that Apple was working on a “Watch X” redesign to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the smartwatch. If the first Apple Watch actually launched in spring 2015, Apple has been releasing new models in the fall alongside new iPhones. “Given that the Apple Watch was announced in 2014 but not released until 2015, the company could either tout the anniversary this year or have a splashier release in 2025,” Gurman said.
Anyway, both versions of the Apple Watch Series 10 should get bigger screens that are “about as large as the one found on the Apple Watch Ultra.” However, Gurman said that we shouldn’t expect a significant redesign except for a thinner body.
The Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3 should also come with a more powerful S-Series chip, though Gurman believes they won’t support Apple Intelligence. For now, Apple’s personal intelligence system is only coming to select iPhones, iPads, and Macs, and support for the Vision Pro headset is also in the works.
Gurman was also uncertain about the state of two new health-related features designed to measure high blood pressure and sleep apnea. “ Since making headway on those features last year, Apple has run into some serious snags,” the reporter was told. The company is also said to be hard at work on a glucose monitoring feature, but this is also something that’s probably not coming anytime soon.
While we may see Apple release a new iPhone SE next year, Gurman also reported that the company is working on a new low-cost Apple Watch SE. To make it even more affordable, Apple has reportedly been testing a new plastic shell to replace the current aluminum one.
Gurman’s latest newsletter also mentions that the big AI upgrade for Siri that Apple unveiled at its WWDC conference last month may not be ready until early 2025. Apple could be planning to launch this new version of Siri as a developer beta in January, with a public rollout to follow later in the Spring with iOS 18.4.
