Microsoft Releases September 2024 Patch Tuesday Updates

Windows 11 PC

Microsoft has just released the September 2024 Patch Tuesday updates for all supported versions of Windows 11 and Windows 10. PCs already running the upcoming Windows 11 version 24H2 are getting the KB5043080 patch today, while users on versions 23H2 and 22H2 of the OS will get the KB5043076 update.

Here are the main additions in these two updates:

Android devices in Windows Share: Windows 11 users can now use Windows Share to share content to a linked Android device. The pairing process requires using the Link to Windows app on Android devices and Phone Link on Windows 11.

Narrator improvements: Microsoft improved the response time for scan mode in Narrator, which can be used for navigating apps, email, and webpages using arrow keys on the keyboard.

Voice Access improvements: Users can now dictate characters they spell at a faster speed and access more editing options for commands used to select, delete, and move within text.

Widgets Board changes: Microsoft is rolling out new APIs allowing third-party developers to create new widget feeds in the EU. As part of this update, some existing widgets will be removed and others will change.

Task Manager improvements (24H2 only): Microsoft fixed an issue causing graphs on the Performance page to not show the correct colors when using dark mode.

For Windows 10 users, today’s KB5043064 patch for the 22H2 version of the OS only brings a couple of bug fixes. One that’s worth mentioning fixes an issue causing apps to stop responding because of a memory leak in a Bluetooth device.

Lastly, Microsoft has yet to fix the recent Linux boot issues on dual-boot systems. The company previously explained that the problem is caused by a new Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT) value that was applied by mistake on dual-boot devices with the August security updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10. Microsoft is still working with its Linux partners to find a resolution, but there’s no ETA yet.
