Google Photos Adds New Video Editing Features on Mobile

Google Photos is improving its built-in video editor with a couple of new features that are now rolling out to mobile users. Thanks to new AI-powered video presets, Google is making it much easier for iOS and Android users to make quick edits to any video.

“These presets can automatically trim the video, adjust lighting, control speed, or apply effects like dynamic motion tracking of main subject, zooming in the main action, or applying slow-mo with just a few taps,” the company said in a community post today.

The Android version of the Google Photos app is also getting some additional changes today. It starts with the app surfacing users’ favorite editing tools right when they open the video editor.

Google Photos on Android is also getting an updated trim tool with more granular controls, as well as a new Auto Enhance option to improve the color balance and reduce shakiness. A new Speed tool has also been added to speed up clips or add cool-looking slow-motion effects.

While Apple just released a dramatic redesign of its Photos app with iOS 18, Google continues to iterate on its own Photos app with touches of AI. Earlier this year, Google also brought its Magic Editor feature and other AI-powered editing tools to more users.
