Starfield’s Shattered Space Story Expansion is Now Available on Xbox and PC

Starfield Shattered Space story expansion

Starfield, the space-themed action RPG from Bethesda is getting its first story expansion today, Shattered Space. The story DLC comes nearly a year after the release of Starfield on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass, and it’s priced at $29.99. Game Pass subscribers can get it with a $3 discount, but it’s also included in the $34.99 Starfield Premium Edition Upgrade.

As you may already know, Starfield was the first new IP in over 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4. The game retains the well-loved Bethesda formula with a large open world with lots of quests spread out across different factions. In Starfield, the studio also took the open-world aspect to the next level with around 1,000 procedurally-generated planets players can explore in the game.

This promise of unparalleled freedom didn’t really help to make Starfield a breakout hit, however. That’s probably with Shattered Space, Bethesda is offering a carefully handcrafted location, the home world of House Va’ruun.

“When you arrive in Va’ruun’kai, a massive vortex has destroyed much of the city of Dazra, throwing House Va’ruun into chaos. In Shattered Space, you’ll uncover the mysteries behind the vortex and learn the fate of the survivors of House Va’ruun,” Bethesda explained in a blog post.

While any Starfield player can start playing this new Shattered Space story expansion today, the developers recommends reaching level 35 first for the best experience. The base game is also being updated today with fixes for quests, the new REV-8 land vehicle, the ship builder, and more.

After Microsoft announced that the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be coming to Sony’s PlayStation 5 in Spring 2025, it will be interesting to see if Starfield will remain exclusive to the Xbox and PC ecosystem or also make the jump to the PS5. Microsoft already ported four of its Xbox-exclusive games on other consoles this year, and Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming recently said that the company wanted “better games that more people can play.”

Anyway, the release of Starfield: Shattered Space today will be followed next week by the first expansion for Diablo IV, Vessel of Hatred, to be released on October 8. Game Pass subscribers will also need to purchase it separately for $36 with their member discount.
