Meta Launches Unified Facebook Content Monetization Program in Beta

Facebook Content Monetization Program

Meta announced today the launch of a new Facebook Content Monetization program in beta. The new program merges the existing monetization opportunities on Facebook, including in-stream ads, ads on Reels, and Performance Bonus programs into a single offering that should make the platform more attractive for content creators.

If Twitter/X only launched its ads revenue sharing program last year, Facebook has been paying select creators for their content since 2017. The company said that it paid Facebook content creators over $2 billion last year for their videos, reels, photos, and text posts. In that same period, Facebook also increased payouts for reels and short videos by more than 80%.

“We’re proud of how our monetization programs have helped creators thrive on Facebook, but we know that the different availability, eligibility requirements and sign-up processes of our various programs have resulted in some creators missing opportunities and others not being eligible to earn from all available formats. And the data backs this up – today only about one third of monetizing creators on Facebook earn from more than one Facebook-funded program,” the company said today.

With this new unified monetization program, creators will have a streamlined hub for monetizing their content with a simpler performance-based payout model. While creators could already earn money for their videos, reels, photos, and text posts, Meta has also started experimenting with Stories monetization for select participants of its new beta program.

A lot could certainly be said about Twitter/X’s ad revenue sharing program encouraging sensationalistic takes and toxicity. With over 3 billion monthly active users, however, Facebook has a much bigger audience that any content creator can’t ignore. And no, Facebook isn’t just being used by “boomers.”

Meta said that will invite one million creators already monetizing their content on Facebook to join its new beta program, with more invites to be issued in the following months. Users can also express their interest for the new monetization program by filling this form, and it should fully open to the public next year.
