Red Dead Redemption, the cult-classic action adventure game from GTA developer Rockstar Games is finally coming to PC on October 29. The game will be available on the Rockstar Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, and it will be bundled with Undead Nightmare, its zombie-horror companion story.
The western-themed game was originally released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in May 2010. Rockstar Games previously ported it to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch last year, but the studio chose not to re-release it on Xbox as the original Xbox 360 version is already backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Red Dead Redemption received critical acclaim upon its release on 7th gen consoles, and players had to wait no less than 8 years to see its sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2 (which is actually a prequel), launch on last-gen consoles. The latter was also a critical hit and still has one of the most realistic open-worlds ever seen in a video game.
Rockstar Games has worked with Double Eleven, the studio that previously helped the company port Red Dead Redemption on modern PlayStation consoles and the Nintendo Switch to add PC-specific enhancements to the 14 year-old game. In addition to 4K graphics at up to 144Hz, this new PC version will support Ultrawide (21:9) and Super Ultrawide (32:9) monitors, HDR 10, NVIDIA DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.0, and full keyboard and mouse functionality.
While Rockstar Games didn’t indicate a price for the PC version of Red Dead Redemption, the remastered versions for PlayStation consoles and the Nintendo Switch launched at $49.99. As the PC version comes with exclusive enhancements, it’s probably not going to be any cheaper. Anyway, it’s good to see that Rockstar Games still cares about this franchise, and it would be nice to see the studio release native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 as well.
