Amazon’s Eero today announced Eero Outdoor 7, a mesh Wi-Fi 7 solution for those who want to extend their networks to the yard.
“Eero Outdoor 7 is our first device that’s purpose-built to extend your Eero network outside,” the announcement post explains. “We’ve always prioritized reliability—in fact, some of our customers are still using our very first eero almost ten years later. But it’s totally different building an outdoor device that can operate in unpredictable conditions. For example, Arizona hit record highs this year at 118 F, and Alaska regularly sees temperatures as low as -18 F.”
Eero Outdoor 7 extends an existing Eero 7-based Wi-Fi network with up to 15,000 square feet of outdoor coverage, allowing customers to work outside or use Wi-Fi-based devices like security cameras and speakers. (That should please the neighbors.) Those with larger properties can use multiple Eero Outdoor 7 nodes, of course, as is the case inside. “Our testers have used Eero Outdoor 7 to get coverage from a house to a beach and from an apartment down to the street below,” the company notes.
Aside from the obvious benefits of using Eero and mesh Wi-Fi networking–I’m a customer and fan, and use Eero in both Pennsylvania and Mexico City–Eero Outdoor 7 provides unique features required for the outdoors. The node works in extreme temperatures and conditions, is IP66-rated to handle precipitation of all kinds and any level of dust, and includes mounting accessories for stucco, vinyl, wood, or fiber cement walls. It also includes a 2.5GbE port that supports Power-over-Ethernet, and there’s an optional 30-watt Outdoor PoE+ power adapter so the Eero Outdoor 7 can be powered by any outdoor AC outlet.
Eero Outdoor 7 is $399. It’s available for pre-order now from Amazon.com and will ship November 13.
