Mozilla today announced the immediate availability of Firefox 132 on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iPhone, and iPad.
The new features are different for each platform.
Windows users, for example, get support for Microsoft PlayReady encrypted media playback on select websites (and not necessarily immediately, as this feature is rolling out progressively). “Through this support, we are gradually rolling out a 1080p baseline and 4K Ultra HD support with key streaming partners,” Mozilla notes. “An added benefit is that viewers get less battery drain and better performance when streaming their favorite movies and shows.” It’s not clear which sites are supported.
Windows and Mac users get 8-bit wide color gamut WebGL support for videos, games, and images. Those on Mac get session resume functionality and support for the new screen and window sharing selection features in macOS Sequoia. And all users on desktop get WebRender hardware accelerated rendering is now enabled for most SVG formats and third-party cookie blocking when Enhanced Tracking Protection is set to Strict mode.
Firefox 132 for Android now puts the address bar at the top of the screen, but you can reset it to the bottom (where it belongs) in settings. And there’s a low-level change that improves the display of the virtual keyboard when used with Firefox.
On iPhone and iPad, Firefox 132 brings fixes for the Tab Tray, navigation/UX, and suggested website icons, plus performance enhancements.
