Windows 11 Version 24H2 Has a Compatibility Issue With Select Ubisoft Games

Microsoft is blocking updates to Windows 11 version 24H2 on PCs where select Ubisoft games are installed. This is due a to a recently discovered compatibility issue causing recent Ubisoft titles to not work as expected on the latest version of Windows 11.

The list of affected games includes Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. ‘These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen,” the company explained on the Windows Health Dashboard (via Bleeping Computer).

Microsoft said that it’s already working on a resolution with Ubisoft, and it will provide more information when a fix is available. In the meantime, Ubisoft has already released a patch to prevent Star Wars Outlaws from failing, but the game may still have some performance issues on Windows 11 version 24H2. That’s why Microsoft applied a compatibility hold on devices with these games installed, and the company also recommends users to not force install the update using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until a proper fix is available.

Microsoft still has other upgrade blocks in place as it’s working to fix compatibility issues with Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers, select ASUS devices, and some Wallpaper customization applications and Easy Anti-Cheat software. This pretty much happens with every Windows release, and you can find the full list of known issues with every version of Windows on the Windows Health Dashboard.
