Microsoft Fixes More Flight Simulator 2024 Issues, Improves Reliability

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 walk

10 days after the game’s initial–and apparently disastrous–launch, Microsoft claims to have fixed most of the reliability issues with Flight Simulator 2024.

“We are happy to report that the issues regarding access and streaming have been resolved,” the Flight Simulator team posted on Wednesday night, ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday long weekend. “The distribution layer capacity has been increased to handle the immense interest in the simulator and the reliability is now above 99.999%. Our servers and services are also all performing as expected.”

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was one of the most eagerly-awaited game titles of the holiday 2024 season, but when it arrived on November 19, gamers complained about a litany of issues, including long wait times and horrible connectivity once in the game. So Microsoft issued a hot-fix on November 23 to help address the problems. And then it revealed this past Wednesday that it had done backend work to improve the experience further.

For the short term, Microsoft will disable non-aircraft marketplace content that was originally designed for the previous version of the game, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, because some third-party add-ons are causing issues so severe that gamers can’t even play the title.

But more fixes are on the way. Next week, Microsoft will issue a second hotfix for Flight Simulator 2024 with more stability improvements and other fixes. And the week after that, the week of December 9, it will release a larger patch as well. That patch will allow users to enable/disable third-party add-ons while providing a safe mode option for disabling add-ons if the game crashes on start.

The team promises further updates and says that fans should bookmark its Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 FAQ for the latest information.
