Microsoft is Laying Off Employees Across its Sales, Security, and Gaming Divisions

Microsoft is doing another round of layoffs that will impact employees working on security, experiences and devices, sales, and gaming. Business Insider reported the news yesterday citing two people familiar with the matter.

Last week, Business Insider reported that Microsoft was planning to do performance-based job cuts across the company including its security division. This may have come as a surprise as Microsoft said last year that it was making security its “top priority.”

“At Microsoft we focus on high performance talent,” company’s spokesperson told Business Insider last week. “We are always working on helping people learn and grow. When people are not performing, we take the appropriate action.”

Well, a company’s representative told Business Insider this week that these latest layoffs affecting security, sales, and gaming teams are unrelated to the job cuts the publication announced last week. The company’s spokesperson also said that the layoffs were small without giving a specific figure.

In other Microsoft-related news, the company also announced earlier this week an internal reorg with the creation of a new Core AI – Platforms and Tools division. It will be led by Jay Parikh, a former Vice President and Global Head of Engineering at Meta who will focus on giving Microsoft the best tools and infrastructure required for the AI era.
