Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Canary Build 27774

Microsoft has released today the Windows 11 Insider build 27774 on the Canary Channel. This update brings improvements to the Windows setup experience, and it also makes it possible for Windows home users to enable Administrator protection via Windows Security settings.

Administrator protection is a new security feature on Windows 11 that Microsoft announced at its Ignite conference in November. When enabled, it requires users to verify their identity with Windows Hello before performing any action that requires administrator privileges. With the Windows 11 Canary build 27774, the feature can now be enabled without an IT admin.

Administrator protection is available from Windows Security settings under the Account Protection tab. When enabled, the Windows Security credential dialog now comes with expanded color-coded regions. You can see how it looks in the image below.

Microsoft is also releasing ISOs for today’s Windows 11 Canary build 27774. When installing this build from installation media, Insiders will now see a confirmation dialog when formatting or deleting partitions.

Let’s wrap up with a couple of bug fixes: For PC gamers, today’s build fixes the issue that was causing the Xbox app for Windows to fail to launch in the last two Canary builds. Microsoft also fixed various UI issues causing accent colored window borders and shadows around windows to not be displayed when enabled.
