Apple has just released iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3, which bring a couple of Apple Intelligence updates on devices that support it. For iPhone 16 users, iOS 18.3 also brings a couple of Visual Intelligence upgrades.
With iOS 18.3, Apple is now enabling Apple Intelligence by default on eligible devices. The AI features do take some additional storage as some of them rely on AI models running locally. However, it’s still possible to disable Apple Intelligence entirely in the Settings app.
Following multiple reports of inaccurate news alerts, Apple is disabling Apple Intelligence notification summaries for the News Entertainment category of apps. The company plans to bring them back at some point, and for other apps, these notifications will now use italicized text on the Lock Screen to make them easier to identify.
In the Settings app, Apple now makes it clear that notification summaries are a beta feature and that notifications “may contain errors.” When enabled, these notifications can now be turned off for specific apps right from the Lock Screen or Notification Center. All these changes to notification summaries are also available on iPadOS 18.3 and macOS Sequoia 15.3.
For iPhone 16 users, iOS 18.3 improves the Visual Intelligence feature that can be summoned by long-pressing the new Camera Control button. Now, Visual Intelligence can add an event to Calendar from a poster or flyer, and it can also identify a broader range of plants and animals.
Apple has also fixed bugs in its Calculator app on all platforms today. Users can once hit the equals sign again to repeat the last mathematical operation. Another bug that was causing the keyboard to disappear when initiating a typed Siri request has also been addressed.
For Mac users, macOS 18.3 brings support for the same Genmoji feature that Apple first shipped on iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 last month. On Apple Silicon Macs, Genmoji lets users create custom emojis using a natural language prompt right from the emoji keyboard.
Let’s wrap up with new minor updates for Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro users: watchOS 11.3 brings a new Unity Rhythm watch face that reacts to the gyroscope, while tvOS 18.3 and visionOS 2.3 only include bug fixes and security updates.
